This predates Trigla obscura Bloch & Schneider 1801; also note that Blanc & Hureau 1973:588 [ref. 7218] date to Linnaeus 1764 [but that date is apparently 1754, prelinnaean, Mus. Ad. Fr. 2, p. 94]. •Valid as Aspitrigla obscura (Walbaum 1792) with author as Bloch & Schneider 1801 -- (Blanc & Hureau 1973:588 [ref. 7218], Hureau in Whitehead et al. 1986:1232 [ref. 13677] and Arruda 1997:117 [ref. 24952] all with Linnaeus as author). •Valid as Chelidonichthys obscurus (Walbaum 1792) with author as Bloch & Schneider 1801 -- (Richards & Saksena 1990:682 [ref. 17757], Bilecenoğlu et al. 2002:73 [ref. 26753]). •Valid as Chelidonichthys obscurus (Walbaum 1792) (sic) -- (Fricke et al. 2007:78 [ref. 29533], Lipej & Dulčić 2010:39 [ref. 36649], Richards 2016:2307 [ref. 35044], Martins & Carneiro 2018:112 [ref. 36550], Carneiro et al. 2019:235 [ref. 37250], Elbaraasi et al. 2019:96 [ref. 36864], Kovačić et al. 2020:46 [ref. 37519], Bañón & Maño 2021:68 [ref. 38883], Kovačić et al. 2021:83 [ref. 39014]). Current status: Valid as Chelidonichthys obscurus (Walbaum 1792). Triglidae: Triglinae. Distribution: Mediterranean Sea; eastern Atlantic: British Isles south to Mauritania, including Madeira. Azores and Canary Islands unconfirmed [ref. 34617]. Habitat: marine.
