Lectotype selected by Fraser & Allen 2010:54 [ref. 30717]. •Valid as Apogon opercularis Macleay 1878 -- (Paxton et al. 1989:549 [ref. 12442], Larson & Williams 1997:357 [ref. 23967], Randall & Fraser 1999:631 [ref. 24563], Fraser 2006:140 [ref. 28665], Allen et al. 2006:1093 [ref. 29004]). •Valid as Apogonichthyoides opercularis (Macleay 1878) -- (Fraser & Allen 2010:53 [ref. 30717], Fraser & Allen 2011:67 [ref. 31605], Larson et al. 2013:108 [ref. 32988], Mabuchi et al. 2014:202 [ref. 33426], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:164 [ref. 36965]). Current status: Valid as Apogonichthyoides opercularis (Macleay 1878). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, southwestern Pacific: Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland (Australia). Habitat: marine.
