pantherinum, Scyllium Smith [A.] in Müller & Henle 1838:13 [Systematische Beschreibung der Plagiostomen; ref. 3069] Cape of Good Hope, South Africa, southeastern Atlantic. Syntypes: BMNH 1845.7.3.145 (stuffed); RMNH uncat. (1, whereabouts unknown); UTZI uncat. (1, whereabouts unknown). Appeared first as name only in Smith 1838:85 [ref. 4034]. Some authors regard Smith alone responsible for the description. Based on multiple sources including manuscript name by A. Smith (BMNH), specimen in RMNH, and drawing by W. von Rapp (UTZI), so could date to all three authors. •Valid as Poroderma pantherinum (Smith 1838) [often seen as Müller & Henle 1838] -- (Compagno 1984:349 [ref. 6846], Bass 1986:95 [ref. 5635], Gubanov & Timoxin 1989:221 [ref. 36138], Fricke 1999:17 [ref. 24106], Compagno 1999:480 [ref. 25589], Human 2006:13 [ref. 28714], Weigmann 2016:42 [ref. 34211], Fricke et al. 2018:10 [ref. 35805], Almeida & Biscoito 2019:61 [ref. 37302], Soares & Carvalho 2020:379 [ref. 37593], Ebert et al. 2021:53 [ref. 38234], Human & Ebert 2022:491 [ref. 39666]). Current status: Valid as Poroderma pantherinum (Smith 1838). Scyliorhinidae. Distribution: Southeastern Atlantic, southwestern Indian Ocean: Northern Cape around Cape of Good Hope to KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), Madagascar, Mauritius (Mascarenes). Habitat: marine.
