poecilepterus, Julis Temminck [C. J.] & Schlegel [H.] 1845:169, Pl. 86bis (fig. 1) [Fauna Japonica Parts 7-9; ref. 4373] Bay of Sinabara, Japan. Lectotype: RMNH D1385 (stuffed). Paralectotypes: RMNH D1383-1384 (2, stuffed), 2225 (1). Lectotype selected by Boeseman 1947:140 [ref. 12876]. The correct original spelling is poecilepterus and current authors until recently have misspelled this name. •Valid as Halichoeres poecilepterus (Temminck & Schlegel 1845) [often seen as poecilopterus] -- (Araga in Masuda et al. 1984:209 [ref. 6441] as poecilopterus, Lee & Kim 1996:38 [ref. 25726], Nakabo 2000:992 [ref. 25182] as poecilopterus, Shinohara et al. 2000:180 [ref. 25987], Shimizu 2001:34 [ref. 25799], Nakabo 2002:992 [ref. 26193] as poecilopterus, Kwun et al. 2017:142 [ref. 37287] as poecilopterus). •Valid as Parajulis poecileptera (Temminck & Schlegel 1845) -- (Sonoyama et al. 2020:86 [ref. 37637]). •Valid as Parajulis poecilepterus (Temminck & Schlegel 1845) -- (Parenti & Randall 2000:34 [ref. 24943], Westneat in Randall & Lim 2000:629 [ref. 25122], Sadovy & Cornish 2000:210 [ref. 25480], Kuiter 2010:258 [ref. 35285] as poecileptera and authorship as Richardson 1846, Victor 2016:17 [ref. 34530], Kim et al. 2020:151 [ref. 39118]). Current status: Valid as Parajulis poecilepterus (Temminck & Schlegel 1845). Labridae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific: Korea and Japan. Habitat: marine.
