Type catalog: Bertin & Estève 1950:59 [ref. 19575], Ferraris 2007:342 [ref. 29155]. •Species inquirenda in genus Pseudoplatystoma -- (Lundberg & Littmann in Reis et al. 2003:442 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:342 [ref. 29155]). •Valid as Pseudoplatystoma punctifer (Castelnau 1855) -- (Buitrago-Suárez 2006:120 [ref. 28917], Barriga Salazar 2014:114 [ref. 35745], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:94 [ref. 35633], Silvano et al. 2020:311 [ref. 38135], Grant 2021:122 [ref. 38702], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:23 [ref. 39298], Koerber et al. 2022:62 [ref. 39235]). Current status: Valid as Pseudoplatystoma punctifer (Castelnau 1855). Pimelodidae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru). Habitat: freshwater.
