Specimens reported by Chernova (1991:62 [ref. 23263]) are not this species -- see Chernova et al. 2004:14 [ref. 27592]. •Valid as Careproctus ranula (Goode & Bean 1879) -- (Lloris 1982:105 [ref. 8449], Scott & Scott 1988:517 [ref. 25518], McAllister 1990:209 [ref. 14674] as ranulus, Chernova 1991:62 [ref. 23263], Chernova & Borkin 1993:23 [ref. 24660], Able in Collette & Klein-MacPhee 2002:369 [ref. 26158], Parin et al. 2002:S113 [ref. 28300], Moore et al. 2003:223 [ref. 27076], Chernova et al. 2004:14 [ref. 27592], Knudsen & Møller 2008:180 [ref. 29611], Andriashev & Chernova 2011:370 [ref. 31164], Page et al. 2013:127 [ref. 32708], Dolgov 2013:919 [ref. 33112] as cf. runula, Chernova 2015:773 [ref. 33664], Page et al. 2023:190 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Careproctus ranula (Goode & Bean 1879). Liparidae. Distribution: Western North Atlantic: north of Spitsbergen, off Newfoundland to New Jersey, including the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Gulf of Maine, Kara Sea (on Dolgov 2013). Habitat: marine.
