Syntypes or possible syntypes: AMS B.7528 (1) Poonah. Probably not a syntype of ruppelli, see Keskar et al. 2015:558 [ref. 34106]. Originally spelled rupelli but considered an incorrect original spelling (Art. 32.5) as Sykes stated "dedicated ... to Rüppell". Appeared first as above, then in Sykes 1839:59 [ref. 4306]; more complete treatment in Sykes 1841:366, Pl. 64 (fig. 1) [ref. 18868]. •Valid as Nemacheilus ruppelli (Sykes 1839) -- (Menon 1987:158 [ref. 14149] as Noemacheilus ruppelli, Talwar & Jhingran 1991:499 [ref. 20764] as Nemacheilus rueppelli, Menon 1999:183 [ref. 24904] as Noemacheilus rupelli, Yadav 2000:41 [ref. 25661] as rueppelli, Yadav 2003:17 [ref. 27711]). •Valid as Nemachilichthys ruppelli (Sykes 1839) -- (Bănărescu & Nalbant 1995:448 [ref. 23187], Kottelat 2012:93 [ref. 32367], Keskar et al. 2015:561 [ref. 34106] as rueppelli, Kullander 2016:92 [ref. 34436], Keskar et al. 2016:100 [ref. 34437], Kullander 2016:92 [ref. 34436], Bleher 2018:176 [ref. 36647]). Current status: Valid as Nemachilichthys ruppelli (Sykes 1839). Nemacheilidae. Distribution: Upper reaches of the east-flowing Krishna River system, Western Ghats, India. Habitat: freshwater.
