Based on Plecostomus plecostomus var. Kner & Steindachner 1865, and on specimens examined from Monte Liria and at Gatun, Panama; Steindachner's specimens were from New Granada. Current status: Synonym of Hypostomus aspidolepis (Günther 1867). Loricariidae: Hypostominae. Habitat: freshwater.
