Holotype: USNM 50504. Paratypes: USNM 93425 (5). •Valid as Cichlasoma amarum Hubbs 1936 -- (Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:621 [ref. 27061] as incertae sedis in 'Cichlasoma'). •Valid as Mayaheros amarus (Hubbs 1936) -- (Říčan et al. 2016:27 [ref. 34357]). Current status: Valid as Mayaheros amarus (Hubbs 1936). Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: Isla Mujeres of Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico. Habitat: freshwater.
