Based on Bonaparte 1840, fasc. 28, Pl. 115 (fig. 2). and 1840, fisc. 30, Pl. 116 (fig. 2). Also in Bonaparte 1845:20 [ref. 13472]. •Synonym of Scardinius erythrophthalmus (Linnaeus 1758), but a valid subspecies hesperidicus Bonaparte 1845 -- (Mrakovcic et al. 1995:184 [ref. 23079] but dated Heckel 1858). •Synonym of Scardinius erythrophthalmus (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Kottelat 1997:83 [ref. 22952], Bianco & Kottelat 2005:234 [ref. 29332]). •Valid as Scardinius hesperidicus Bonaparte 1845 -- (Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:253 [ref. 29996], Kottelat & Freyhof 2009:79 [ref. 30320], Perea et al. 2010:14 [ref. 31802], Bianco & Delmastro 2011:5 [ref. 31648], Bianco 2013:8 [ref. 32897], Karataş et al. 2016:130 [ref. 34987], Lorenzoni et al. 2019:252 [ref. 37108]). Current status: Valid as Scardinius hesperidicus Bonaparte 1845. Leuciscidae: Leuciscinae. Distribution: Southern Europe: southern Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia. Habitat: freshwater.
