lophophanes, Rhinelepis Eigenmann [C. H.] & Eigenmann [R. S.] 1889:9 [West American Scientist v. 6 (no. 42); ref. 1258] Santa Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil. Holotype (unique): MCZ 8164. Type catalog: Ferraris 2007:276 [ref. 29155]. Also described as new in Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1889 (Aug.):42 [ref. 1253]. A lectotype was selected by Garavello et al. 1998:7 [ref. 23346] but apparently there was only a holotype in the original description above. •Valid as Otocinclus lophophanes (Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1889) -- (Isbrücker 1980:83 [ref. 2303], Isbrücker 2002:24 [ref. 27178]). •Valid as Microlepidogaster lophophanes (Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1889) -- (Burgess 1989:439 [ref. 12860]). •In Otothyris -- (Schaefer 1997:8 [ref. 23213]). •Valid as Otothyris lophophanes (Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1889) -- (Garavello et al. 1998:5 [ref. 23346], Isbrücker 2001:30, 32 [ref. 25653], Schaefer in Reis et al. 2003:325 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:276 [ref. 29155], Rosa et al. 2014:59 [ref. 33228]). Current status: Valid as Otothyris lophophanes (Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1889). Loricariidae: Hypoptopomatinae. Distribution: Atlantic coastal streams of Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
