Holotype: USNM 121033. Paratypes: MCZ 21835 [ex USNM 121035] (1); USNM 121034 (1), 121035 (3, now 2), 121075 (1). Type catalog: Ferraris & Vari 1992:30 [ref. 19771], Ferraris 2007:278 [ref. 29155]. Named for Dr. and Mrs. Fredrick A. Sutton, so name should have been formed as suttonorum (see Isbrücker in Baensch & Riehl 1997:510 [ref. 37388]), now in usage. •Valid as Panaque suttoni Schultz 1944 -- (Isbrücker 1980:75 [ref. 2303], Burgess 1989:437 [ref. 12860], Galvis et al. 1997:95 [ref. 23651]). •Valid as Panaque suttonorum Schultz 1944 -- (Isbrücker in Baensch & Riehl 1997:510 [ref. 37388], Isbrücker 2001:30 [ref. 25653], Isbrücker 2002:24 [ref. 27178], Fisch-Muller in Reis et al. 2003:391 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:278 [ref. 29155], Lujan et al. 2010:697 [ref. 31098], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:81 [ref. 35633], Ortega-Lara & Lujan 2020:406 [ref. 37306]). Current status: Valid as Panaque suttonorum Schultz 1944. Loricariidae: Hypostominae. Distribution: South America: western and eastern tributaries of Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela and Colombia. Habitat: freshwater.
