Lectotype: NMNHS 300/2. Lectotype selected by Karapetkova in Hoestlandt 1991:129 (not investigated, see Kottelat 1997:40 [ref. 22952]). •Synonym of Alosa tanaica (Grimm 1901) -- (Kottelat 1997:40 [ref. 22952], Bilecenoğlu et al. 2002:35 [ref. 26753]). •Valid as Alosa bulgarica Drensky 1934 -- (Michajlova 1989:25 [ref. 20062]). •Synonym of Alosa caspia (Eichwald 1838), but a valid subspecies bulgarica Drensky 1934 -- (Svetovidov 1973:106 [ref. 7169], Whitehead in Whitehead et al. 1984:271 [ref. 13675], Whitehead 1985:197 [ref. 5141], Lelek 1987:58 [ref. 22962], Karpaetkova 1991:129 [ref. 24830], Reshetnikov et al. 1997:726 [ref. 24702], Vassilev & Pehlivanov 2005:163 [ref. 28369], Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2020:23 [ref. 37983], Çiçek et al. 2024:38 [ref. 40789]). Current status: Synonym of Alosa caspia (Eichwald 1838). Alosidae. Distribution: Subspecies is a Bulgarian endemic. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
