Holotype (unique): whereabouts unknown. •Synonym of Siganus stellatus (Forsskål 1775), but as the valid Indian Ocean subspecies -- (Woodland 1990:78, 80 [ref. 19220], Fricke 1999:531 [ref. 24106]). •Valid as Siganus laqueus von Bonde 1934 -- (Kuiter & Debelius 2001:175 [ref. 26232], Heemstra 2004:3338 [ref. 27945], Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:409 [ref. 28072], Fricke et al. 2009:105 [ref. 30213], Fricke et al. 2013:270 [ref. 32706], Fricke et al. 2018:349 [ref. 35805], Arndt & Fricke 2019:29 [ref. 36883], Woodland 2022:213 [ref. 40143]). Current status: Valid as Siganus laqueus von Bonde 1934. Siganidae. Distribution: Indian Ocean: South Africa, East Africa, Seychelles, Aldabra (Seychelles), Comoros, Madagascar and Mascarenes (La Réunion, Mauritius, Rodrigues) east to Singapore. Habitat: marine.
