Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:135 [ref. 13621]. •Valid as Ophidion smithi (Fowler 1934) -- (Nielsen & Cohen 1986:349 [ref. 5700], Goren & Dor 1994:15 [ref. 25356], Robins in Nielsen et al. 1999:40 [ref. 24448] with doubt, Golani & Fricke 2018:39 [ref. 36273]). Current status: Valid as Ophidion smithi (Fowler 1934). Ophidiidae: Ophidiinae. Distribution: Red Sea, Indian Ocean: East and South Africa east to northwestern Australia. Habitat: marine.
