R.] 1932:2, Fig. 1 [American Museum Novitates No. 515; ref. 16384] Lower Congo River at Lukolela, about 500 miles from the Congo River mouth, Africa. Holotype (unique): AMNH 9697. •Synonym of Papyrocranus afer (Günther 1868) -- (Daget 1984:61 [ref. 6170]). •Valid as Papyrocranus congoensis (Nichols & LaMonte 1932) -- (Roberts 1992:378 [ref. 20012], Hopkins 2007:217 [ref. 30018], Stiassny et al. 2021:1686 [ref. 39000]). Current status: Valid as Papyrocranus congoensis (Nichols & LaMonte 1932). Notopteridae: Xenomystinae. Distribution: Western-central Africa: Congo River basin. Habitat: freshwater.
