Appeared first in Hardenberg 1931:146 [ref. 16298] without distinguishing features. •Valid as Trypauchenichthys sumatrensis Hardenberg 1931 -- (Kottelat et al. 1993:156 [ref. 23448], Larson in Randall & Lim 2000:640 [ref. 25122], Larson & Murdy 2001:3594 [ref. 26293], Proudlove 2006:269 [ref. 28992], Hoese & Larson 2006:1692 [ref. 29097], Murdy 2008:64 [ref. 29660], Murdy 2011:116 [ref. 31729] Kottelat 2013:435 [ref. 32989], Parenti 2021:67 [ref. 38603]). Current status: Valid as Trypauchenichthys sumatrensis Hardenberg 1931. Gobiidae: Amblyopinae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean: northeastern India east to west coast of Malaya (Malaysia) and Sumatra (Indonesia). Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
