Current status: Valid as Acanthurus japonicus (Schmidt 1931). Acanthuridae. Distribution: Western Pacific: Halmahera and northern Sulawesi (Indonesia) and Sabah (Malaysia) east to Philippines and Palau, north to Ryukyu Islands and Ogasawara Islands (Japan). Habitat: marine.
