Holotype (unique): NMW 47839. Type catalog: Ferraris 2007:70 [ref. 29155]. Species later illustrated and described in Steindachner 1917:84 [p. 70 of separate] Pl. 6 (figs. 1-3), genus misspelled Agenciosus on pp. 84 and 106, correctly on plate legend; this main work was released as a separate in 1915 [ref. 4244]. •Valid as Ageneiosus polystictus Steindachner 1915 -- (Burgess 1989:286 [ref. 12860], Burgess & Finley 1996:167 [ref. 22901], Ferraris 2007:70 [ref. 29155], Ribeiro & Rapp Py-Daniel 2010:103 [ref. 30759], Ribeiro et al. 2017:5, 64 [ref. 35133], Calegari et al. 2019:[99] [ref. 36961], Bogotá-Gregory et al. 2020:1401 [ref. 37878], Hashimoto et al. 2020:[3] 16 [ref. 37940], Silvano et al. 2020:207 [ref. 38135]). Current status: Valid as Ageneiosus polystictus Steindachner 1915. Auchenipteridae: Auchenipterinae. Distribution: South America: Rio Negro and lower Branco River basins (Brazil and Colombia). Habitat: freshwater.
