Holotype (unique): VMM unnumbered (now at AMNH). Named after a woman so the correct species epithet would be murielae (ICZN Art. 31.1.2). •Valid as Prionotus murieli Mowbray 1928 -- (Miller & Richards 1991:760 [ref. 15981], Richards & Miller 2003:1274 [ref. 27049], McEachran & Fechhelm 2005:61 [ref. 28815]). •Status uncertain -- (Miller & Richards 1991:757 [ref. 15981]). •Synonym of Prionotus ophyras Jordan & Swain 1885 -- (Victor & Ianniello 2020:76 [ref. 37955]). Current status: Synonym of Prionotus ophyras Jordan & Swain 1885. Triglidae: Prionotinae. Habitat: brackish, marine.
