Holotype (unique): SAM 17356. Also appeared as new in Barnard 1927:815 [ref. 194]. •Valid as Mugilogobius durbanensis (Barnard 1927) -- (Hoese 1986:795 [ref. 5670], Maugé 1986:376 [ref. 6218], Huang et al. 2016:13 [ref. 34500] with question). •Synonym of Mugilogobius mertoni (Weber 1911) -- (Larson 2001:143 [ref. 25522], Kottelat 2013:413 [ref. 32989], Huang et al. 2013:101 [ref. 33734], Larson 2022:162 [ref. 39971]). Current status: Synonym of Mugilogobius mertoni (Weber 1911). Gobiidae: Gobionellinae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
