H.] 1927:72 [Annals and Magazine of Natural History (Series 9) v. 20 (no. 115) (art. 8); ref. 193] Zululand coast, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, southwestern Indian Ocean, depth 36-42 fathoms [66-77 meters]. Syntypes: BMNH 1927.12.6.52-53 [ex SAM] (2), 1930.1.14.8 [ex SAM] (1); SAM 17360 (11, now 2). Also appeared as new in Barnard 1927:824 [ref. 194]. •Synonym of Oxyurichthys microlepis (Bleeker 1849) -- (Maugé 1986:378 [ref. 6218], Hoese 1986:797 [ref. 5670]). •Valid as Oxyurichthys nuchalis (Barnard 1927) -- (Pezold & Larson 2015:6, 48 [ref. 33894], Fricke et al. 2018:336 [ref. 35805], Larson 2022:166 [ref. 39971]). Current status: Valid as Oxyurichthys nuchalis (Barnard 1927). Gobiidae: Gobionellinae. Distribution: Southwestern Indian Ocean: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) north to Mozambique, east to Madagascar. Habitat: brackish, marine.
