Holotype (unique): whereabouts unknown. •Valid as Ophichthys ascensionis Studer 1889 -- (McCosker 1977:81 [ref. 6836]). •Valid as Quassiremus ascensionis (Studer 1889) -- (McCosker et al. 1989:410 [ref. 13288], Leiby in Smith 1989:835 [ref. 13285], Castle 1996:115 [ref. 22122], Smith-Vaniz et al. 1999:141 [ref. 25013], Schmitter-Soto et al. 2000:149 [ref. 27754], McCosker 2003:733 [ref. 26993], Menezes in Menezes et al. 2003:35 [ref. 27192], Wirtz et al. 2014:[3] 785 [ref. 33516], McCosker 2016:1663 [ref. 34558], Carvalho-Filho 2023:59 [ref. 40480]). Current status: Valid as Quassiremus ascensionis (Studer 1889). Ophichthidae: Ophichthinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Bermuda south to Santa Catarina (Brazil); southern-central Atlantic: Ascension Island. Habitat: marine.
