Holotype (unique): SAM 12791 (poor condition). •Valid as Ichthyapus acuticeps (Barnard 1923) -- (McCosker 1977:68 [ref. 6836], McCosker & Castle 1986:179 [ref. 5690], McCosker 2004:172 [ref. 27619], Eagderi et al. 2019:18 [ref. 37020], McCosker 2022:112 [ref. 39686]). Current status: Valid as Ichthyapus acuticeps (Barnard 1923). Ophichthidae: Ophichthinae. Distribution: Southwestern Indian Ocean: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) endemic. Habitat: marine.
