Holotype: BMNH 1867.11.28.322 [from Bleeker coll.]. Günther terms the BMNH specimen as "Type of the species, 9 inches long," so that specimen is the lectotype if other syntypes exist. Replacement name for Sphagebranchus lumbricoides Bleeker 1864, preoccupied by Ophisurus lumbricoides Bleeker 1853 when both are in Ophichthys. But based on Art. 59.3, Ophichthus lumbricoides can be mainained as the valid. name. •In the synonymy of Yirrkala lumbricoides (Bleeker 1864). Replacement Name.
