Leptocephalus is a catch-all name for larval eels. •Valid as Leptocephalus holti Schmidt 1909 -- (Mundy 2005:145 [ref. 28379]). •In family Cyematidae -- (Smith 1989:945 [ref. 13285]). •Larval form of a Neocyema -- (DeVaney et al. 2009:409 [ref. 30475]). •Larval form of Monognathidae -- (Poulsen et al. 2018:18 [ref. 36030]). Current status: Uncertain. Monognathidae. Distribution: North Atlantic; Pacific, including Hawaiian islands; few localities known, possibly more widespread. Habitat: marine.
