cirrhosus, Hypostomus Valenciennes [A.] 1836:Pl. 7 (fig. 3) [Voyage dans l'Amérique méridionale; ref. 20720] No locality. Non-types (possibly incl. holotype): MNHN 0000-4845 (4), A-9565 (2), and B-0603 (1). Type catalog: Bertin & Estève 1950:68 [ref. 19575] as syntypes; technically the figured specimen is the unique holotype if identifiable, Ferraris 2007:220 [ref. 29155]. Name available from plate as above, description in Valenciennes 1847:8 [ref. 5010]. Pl. 7 was published in 1836. See also Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1840:511 [ref. 1008]. Current status: Valid as Ancistrus cirrhosus (Valenciennes 1836). Loricariidae: Hypostominae. Distribution: Paraná River basin, Bolivia, Argentina and Uruguay. Habitat: freshwater.
