breviceps, Mugil Steindachner [F.] 1866:52 [Anzeiger der Kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften, Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftlichen Classe v. 3 (no. 7); ref. 20460] Port Jackson, New South Wales, Australia. Syntypes: (orig. 2) NMW 75847 (2) or 60923 (2). Appeared first in the abstract as above, then in Steindachner 1866:459, Pl. 1 (fig. 1) [ref. 4210]; also on p. 36 of separate. Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Mugil breviceps Valenciennes 1836, replaced by Mugil parviceps Waite 1804. •Synonym of Myxus petardi (Castelnau 1875) -- (Thomson 1997:476 [ref. 23428], Harrison & Senou 1999:2098 [ref. 24780]). •Synonym of Trachystoma petardi (Castelnau 1875) -- (Hoese & Bray 2006:683 [ref. 29000]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Trachystoma petardi (Castelnau 1875). Mugilidae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
