Type catalog: Bertin & Estève 1950:16 [ref. 19575], Ferraris 2007:175 [ref. 29155] Also appeared in Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1840:291 [ref. 1008]. •Valid as Pseudodoras niger (Valenciennes 1821) -- (Burgess 1989:224 [ref. 12860], Chang & Ortega 1995:6 [ref. 24302]). •Valid as Oxydoras niger (Valenciennes 1821) -- (Ortega & Vari 1986:13 [ref. 9708], Fuller et al. 1999:212 [ref. 25838], Sabaj & Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:464 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:175 [ref. 29155], Barriga S. 2014:115 [ref. 35745], Birindelli 2014:536 [ref. 33501], Sarmiento et al. 2014:154, 190 [ref. 35004], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:89 [ref. 35633]). Current status: Valid as Oxydoras niger (Valenciennes 1821). Doradidae. Distribution: Amazon, São Francisco and Essequibo River basins (possibly Orinoco River basin): Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Venezuela (?). Habitat: freshwater.
