Type catalog: Ferraris 2007:428 [ref. 29155]. Appeared first in Cuvier 1829 as: "Il y en a aussi à museau allongé (2), et même pointu et presque sans dents. (3)" and "(3) Pim. conirostris, N." If this judges to have sufficient characterization, then the species dates to 1829. Occurred in more detail in Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1840:204, Pl.436 [ref. 1008]. Probably in a separate family. •Valid as Conorhynchos conirostris (Cuvier 1829) -- (Burgess 1989:281 [ref. 12860] as Conorhynchus, Britski 2001:20 [ref. 26046] as Conorhynchus, Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:254 [ref. 27061] as incertae sedis in Siluriformes, Ferraris 2007:428 [ref. 29155] dated 1836 but family unassigned, Reis et al. 2016:14 [ref. 34496] as Conorhynchus, Silva et al. 2020:12 [ref. 37809], Grant 2021:57 [ref. 38702] dated 1836). Current status: Valid as Conorhynchos conirostris (Cuvier 1829). Distribution: South America: São Francisco River basin (Brazil). Habitat: freshwater.
