Original genus should have been spelled Raja. Also appeared as Raya rostrata in Castelnau 1873:17 [ref. 759], earliest not researched. Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Raja rostrata Shaw 1794, replaced by Raja scabra Ogilby 1888 (itself preoccupied). •Synonym of Raja whitleyi Iredale 1938 -- (Paxton et al. 1989:57 [ref. 12442], Gomon et al. 1994:168 [ref. 22532], Last & Stevens 1994:356 [ref. 23873]). •Synonym of Dipturus whitleyi (Iredale 1938) -- (Hoese et al. 2006:183 [ref. 29001]). •Synonym of Spiniraja whitleyi (Iredale 1938). 1°Homonym.
