N.] 1910:23, Figs. 2-3 [Trudy Obshchestva Estestvoispytatelej Imperatorskom' Kazanskom' Universiteti, Kazan v. 42 (no. 2); ref. 3393] Near Cape Povorotnyi, Peter the Great Bay, Russia, Sea of Japan, depth 812-875 feet (= 116-125 Russian fathoms). Holotype (unique): not researched. •Synonym of Icelus spiniger Gilbert 1896, but a valid supspecies -- (Lindberg & Krasyukova 1987:190 [ref. 15964]). •Valid as Icelus cataphractus (Pavlenko 1910) -- (Nelson 1984:28 [ref. 5391], Yabe in Masuda et al. 1984:324 [ref. 6441], Kim & Youn 1992:66 [ref. 22287], Sokolovskaya et al. 1998:9 [ref. 24670], Nakabo 2000:633 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:633 [ref. 26001], Choi et al. 2003:262, 575 [ref. 26218], Parin et al. 2002:S77 [ref. 28300], Shinohara et al. 2011:43 [ref. 31715], Song et al. 2012:305 [ref. 36295], Shinohara et al. 2014:250 [ref. 33330], Parin et al. 2014:254 [ref. 33547], Tohkairin et al. 2015:7 [ref. 35331], Kim et al. 2020:103 [ref. 39118], Dyldin et al. 2021:64 [ref. 38804], Dyldin & Orlov 2022:45 [ref. 38972]). Current status: Valid as Icelus cataphractus (Pavlenko 1910). Psychrolutidae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific. Habitat: marine.
