Holotype may be one of these: NMW 46412 (1 of 2), 46611 (1 of 6), 58211 (1 of 3); RMNH 2792 (1). Type catalog: Ferraris 2007:170 [ref. 29155]. On p. 10 of separate. Based only on a drawing of the swimbladder. Sabaj & Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:459 [ref. 27061] treat syntypes but the description (figure) was based on one specimen. Later described in more detail by Kner 1855:123, Pl. 2 (fig. 2). •Valid as Astrodoras asterifrons (Kner 1853) -- (Burgess 1989:224 [ref. 12860], de Pinna 1998:307 [ref. 23847], Sabaj & Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:460 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:170 [ref. 29155], Birindelli 2014:536 [ref. 33501], Sarmiento et al. 2014:190 [ref. 35004], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:87 [ref. 35633] without species name, Careaga et al. 2020:78 [ref. 37774], Silvano et al. 2020:232 [ref. 38135]). Current status: Valid as Astrodoras asterifrons (Kner 1853). Doradidae: Astrodoradinae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin (Bolivia, Colombia and Brazil). Habitat: freshwater.
