Paralectotypes: (9) BMNH 1898.9.9.33-35 (3), 36-37 (now 0); ?MCZ 32325 (1); MNHN 1898-0698 [ex BMNH 1898.9.9.36-37] (1); MRAC [ex BMNH 1898.9.9.36-37] (1). Type catalog: Blanc 1962:218 [ref. 20868]. Appeared first as above, then in more detail in Boulenger 1898:13, Pl. 3 (fig. 3) [ref. 547]. Lectotype selected in Poll & Matthes 1962 [ref. 3538] as BMNH 1898.9.9:33-37 (from Kinyamkolo). MarĂ©chal & Poll 1991:305 [ref. 20946] cite 1898.9.9.31 (from Mbity Rocks) as lectotype. •Valid as Ophthalmotilapia ventralis (Boulenger 1898) -- (Maréchal & Poll 1991:305 [ref. 20946], Konings 2015:44 [ref. 34660], Konings 2019:45 [ref. 36983]). Current status: Valid as Ophthalmotilapia ventralis (Boulenger 1898). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Tanganyika. Habitat: freshwater.
