Holotype: HUMZ 33970. Paratypes: HUMZ 33974 (1), 33948 (1), 33971-72 (2), 33974-79 (6), 33981 (1), 33983 (1), 33950 (2), 33960 (1), 33968-69 (2), 40945-46 (2). Lycodes Matsubarai and L. yamatoi were simutaneouly described in ref. 5722; Nazarkin & Shinohara 2012:34 [ref. 32106] act as first revisers selecting matsubarai over yamatoi. •Synonym of Lycodes microlepidotis Schmidt 1950 -- (Balushkin et al. 2011:1000 [ref. 24994], Nazarkin et al. 2014:192 [ref. 33213]). •Valid as Lycodes matsubarai Toyoshima 1985 -- (Anderson 1994:118 [ref. 21438], Nakabo 2000:1039 [ref. 25182], Møller 2001:111 [ref. 25378], Sheiko & Fedorov 2000:36 [ref. 25650], Nakabo 2002:1039 [ref. 26193], Anderson & Fedorov 2004:26 [ref. 27603], Nazarkin 2010:9 [ref. 30733], Nazarkin & Shinohara 2012:34 [ref. 32106], Shinohara et al. 2014:265 [ref. 33330], Parin et al. 2014:414 [ref. 33547], Tohkairin et al. 2015:12 [ref. 35331], Sonoyama et al. 2020:94 [ref. 37637], Dyldin & Orlov 2021:839 [ref. 38925]). Current status: Valid as Lycodes matsubarai Toyoshima 1985. Zoarcidae: Lycodinae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific: Okhotsk Sea and Sea of Japan to Peter the Great Bay (Russia); Yamato Bank (Japan and Russia). Habitat: marine.
