Holotype: UMMZ 150419. Paratypes: CUMV 23478 (26), 37382 (25). Additional material: ANSP 67275-77 (3); CUMV (5 lots, 143); KU (4 lots, 99); NLU (8 lots, 242; now 6 lots); SAU uncat (5 lots, 99); UMMZ (19 lots, 268); USNM 93272 (7). •Valid as Cottus hypselurus Robins & Robison 1985 -- (Robison & Buchanan 1988:477 [ref. 23393], Page & Burr 1991:250 [ref. 18983], Kinziger et al. 2000:1007 [ref. 25019], Gasper et al. 2001:264 [ref. 25578], Kinziger & Wood 2003:624 [ref. 27132] and also recognized a Cottus sp. cf. cypselurus, Nelson et al. 2004:119 [ref. 27807], Scharpf 2008:10 [ref. 30399], Kinziger & Wood 2010:58 [ref. 30701], Page & Burr 2011:478 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:122 [ref. 32708], Goto et al. 2014:[10] [ref. 33456]). Current status: Valid as Cottus hypselurus Robins & Robison 1985. Cottidae. Distribution: Missouri and Arkansas, U.S.A. Habitat: freshwater.
