Syntypes: MHNG 2623.30 (1), 1505.91 (1). Additional non-type material: FMNH 58580 [ex CM 7603] (1); MHNG 1213.97 (1), 1505.91 (2 plus 1 as 65 microscopic preparations). Type catalog: Mahnert 1976:475 [ref. 21535], Weber 1998:10 [ref. 32707], Ferraris 2007:430 [ref. 29155]. •Valid as Phreatobius cisternarum Goeldi 1905 -- (Burgess 1989:283 [ref. 12860], de Pinna 1998:318 [ref. 23847], Romero & Paulson 2001:26 [ref. 26040], Bockmann & Guazzelli in Reis et al. 2003:416 [ref. 27061], Muriel-Cunha & de Pinna 2005:327 [ref. 28453], Proudlove 2006:129 [ref. 28992], Shibatta et al. 2007:191 [ref. 29352], Ferraris 2007:430 [ref. 29155]). Current status: Valid as Phreatobius cisternarum Goeldi 1905. Phreatobiidae. Distribution: Subterranean environments of Marajo Island, underlying the mouth of Amazon River, Brazil [in cisterns]. Habitat: freshwater.
