Holotype (unique): CAS 106475 [ex CAS-SU 6475]. Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:50 [ref. 12291], Hibino & McCosker 2020:333 [ref. 37588]. Original genus should have been Pisodonophis. •Valid as Pisodonophis zophistius Jordan & Snyder 1901 -- (McCosker 1977:83 [ref. 6836] as zophistus, Yogo 1997:4 [ref. 24371], Smith & McCosker 1999:1669 [ref. 24715], Nakabo 2000:224 [ref. 25086], Shimizu 2001:20 [ref. 25799], Nakabo 2002:224 [ref. 26001], Choi et al. 2003:143, 492 [ref. 26218] as Pisoodonophis, Shinohara et al. 2005:400 [ref. 28370]). •Synonym of Ophichthus altipennis (Kaup 1856) -- (Randall 2005:32 [ref. 28239], Ji & Kim 2011:61 [ref. 31152]). •Valid as Ophichthus zophistius (Jordan & Snyder 1901) -- (Hibino et al. 2019:302 [ref. 36433], Shitamitsu & Sunobe 2019:2 [ref. 36767], Hibino & McCosker 2020:332 [ref. 37588], Sonoyama et al. 2020:18 [ref. 37637]). Current status: Valid as Ophichthus zophistius (Jordan & Snyder 1901). Ophichthidae: Ophichthinae. Distribution: Northwestern Pacific: China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and one specimen pelagic in central northwestern Pacific Ocean at 28°21.5’N 135°01.7’E. Habitat: marine.
