E.] 1957:68, Pl. 4; Figs. 1A, 2-6 [Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia v. 109; ref. 598] About 1/4 miles north of the east end of Green Cay, Bahamas, 25°07'00"N, 77°11'15"W, depth about 35 feet. Holotype: ANSP 75156. Paratypes: ANSP 75157 (now 7, orig. 10), 75158 (1, stained), 75159-60 (1, 3), 75161 (1, stained), 75162 (1), 119074 [ex 75157] (1, missing); SMF 4775 [ex ANSP 75157] (1); CAS-SU 52107 [ex ANSP 75157] (1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:64 [ref. 13621]. If the e. and w. Atlantic populations are considered separate species, H. longissimus applies to the e. Atlantic form and H. halis to the w. Atlantic form. •Questionably a synonym of Taenioconger longissimus (Günther 1870) -- (Bauchot & Saldanha in Whitehead et al. 1986:572 [ref. 13676]). •Valid as Heteroconger halis (Böhlke 1957) -- (Robins & Ray 1986:59 [ref. 23100], Smith 1989:485 [ref. 13285], Smith 1989:737 [ref. 13285]). •Synonym of Heteroconger longissimus Günther 1870 -- (Tyler & Luckhurst 1994:90 [ref. 22552], González-Lorenzo et al. 1995:554 [ref. 22877], Smith-Vaniz et al. 1999:142 [ref. 25013], Schmitter-Soto et al. 2000:150 [ref. 27754], Smith 2002:834 [ref. 26549]). Current status: Synonym of Heteroconger longissimus Günther 1870. Congridae: Heterocongrinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic [if treated as valid]. Habitat: marine.
