Syntypes: BMNH 1893.4.28.10 (1), 1893.4.28.11 (1). •Valid as Pythonichthys microphthalmus (Regan 1912) -- (Smith 1989:52 [ref. 13285], Smith 1990:154 [ref. 13454], Smith et al. 2012:492 [ref. 32196], Smith 2016:1610 [ref. 34556], Reiner 2019:57 [ref. 38139], Fermon et al. 2022:113 [ref. 39448]). Current status: Valid as Pythonichthys microphthalmus (Regan 1912). Heterenchelyidae. Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: Mauritania south to Angola, including São Tomé and Principe. Habitat: marine.
