remiger, Ophisurus Valenciennes [A.] 1837:Pl. 12 (fig. 2) [Voyage dans l'Amérique méridionale; ref. 20720] Valparaíso, Chile. Lectotype: MNHN B-2748 (largest of 3). Paralectotypes: MNHN B-2748 (2 of 3). Valenciennes specimens: BMNH 1866.12.27.5 (1), MNHN A-9955 (3). Type catalog: Bauchot et al. 1993:111 [ref. 20810]. Name available from plate as remiger, description in Valenciennes 1847:11 [ref. 5010] as Ophisurus ramiger. The spelling remiger should be used. The figured specimen cannot be identified as the holotype so McCosker & Rosenblatt 1998:414-415 [ref. 23645] selected a lectotype from 3 "syntypes" in the Paris collection collected by d'Orbigny. Plate 12 published in 1837. •Valid as Ophichthus remiger (Valenciennes 1837) -- (McCosker 1977:81 [ref. 6836], Pequeño 1989:25 [ref. 14125], McCosker & Rosenblatt 1998:413 [ref. 23645], Tang & Zhang 2002:855 [ref. 26492], Barriga Salazar 2014:104 [ref. 35745], Robertson et al. 2017:35 [ref. 35676], Siccha-Ramirez et al. 2023:103 [ref. 40816]). Current status: Valid as Ophichthus remiger (Valenciennes 1837). Ophichthidae: Ophichthinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Nicaragua south to Chile. Habitat: marine.
