Syntypes: (2) Bleeker specimens: BMNH 1867.11.28.310 (1) Ambon. Also appeared in Bleeker 1853:69 [ref. 339]. The name polyophthalmus is a noun in apposition. •Valid as Lamnostoma polyophthalma (Bleeker 1853) -- (Marquet et al. 1999:43 [ref. 23934], Keith et al. 2002:92 [ref. 31473], Fricke et al. 2014:22 [ref. 33932]). •Valid as Dalophis polyophthalmus (Bleeker 1853) -- (Talwar & Jhingran 1991:85 [ref. 20764]). •Valid as Lamnostoma polyophthalmum (Bleeker 1853) -- (Nakabo 2000:218 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:218 [ref. 26001], Kottelat 2013:44 [ref. 32989], Chiu et al. 2018:23 [ref. 36033], Ho et al. 2018:13 [ref. 36050], McCosker 2022:113 [ref. 39686]). •Valid as Lamnostoma polyophthalmus (Bleeker 1853). Current status: Valid as Lamnostoma polyophthalmus (Bleeker 1853). Ophichthidae: Ophichthinae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), Comoros, Madagascar and Mascarenes (Mauritius) east to Indonesia and Philippines, north to southern Japan. Habitat: brackish, marine.
