semicinctus, Ophisurus Richardson [J.] 1848:99 [Ichthyology of the voyage of H. M. S. Erebus & Terror v. 2 (2); ref. 3740] West Africa north of the Equator. Syntypes: BMNH 2011.5.4.1 (1, the primary specimen), BMNH 1845.10.4.8? (stuffed).
