Current status: Valid as Tympanopleura piperata Eigenmann 1912. Auchenipteridae: Auchenipterinae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin and Essequibo River basin (Brazil, Colombia, Guyana and Peru). Habitat: freshwater.
