Holotype: ZMA 107562. Paratypes: ZMA 105213 (17), 105597 (6), 105617 (3), 105770 (50), 107025 (3), 107033 (9), 107044 (2), 107616 (16); MNHG uncat. [ex ZMA 105770] (5); MZUSP 14442 [ex ZMA 107033] (2). Type catalog: Oyakawa 1996:475 [ref. 23140]. •Valid as Leporinus nijsseni Garavello 1990 -- (Géry et al. 1991:11 [ref. 21021], Planquette et al. 1996:156 [ref. 22818], Garavello & Britski in Reis et al. 2003:77 [ref. 27061], Britski & Birindella 2013:25 [ref. 32699], Melo et al. 2016:132 [ref. 34701], Borstein et al. 2022:16 [ref. 39507]). Current status: Valid as Leporinus nijsseni Garavello 1990. Anostomidae. Distribution: South America: Saramacca creek and Suriname River (Brazil, French Guiana and Suriname). Habitat: freshwater.
