Syntypes: (16) BMNH 1867.11.28.60 (1); ?NMV A2063 (1); RMNH 24961 [ex RMNH 2222] (some of 11). Also appeared in Bleeker 1852:435 [ref. 16827] with reference to 1852:40. Name only in Bleeker 1852:446 [ref. 16828]. Lectotype selected by Whitehead et al. 1966:113 [ref. 6860]. •Valid as Stolephorus tri (Bleeker 1852) -- (Whitehead et al. 1988:418 [ref. 5725], Wongratana et al. 1999:1741 [ref. 24719], Munroe & Nizinski in Randall & Lim 2000:588 [ref. 25122], Zhang 2001:129 [ref. 26586], Kottelat 2013:55 [ref. 32989], Hata et al. 2019:32 [ref. 36766], Habib & Islam 2020:Supplementary table p. 6 [ref. 38321], Hata et al. 2022:12 [ref. 39809]). Current status: Valid as Stolephorus tri (Bleeker 1852). Engraulidae: Engraulinae. Distribution: Indian Ocean: Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Habitat: brackish, marine.
