Holotype (unique): MCZ 28468. •Valid as Halosaurus attenuatus Garman 1899 -- (McDowell 1973:57 [ref. 24539], Sulak 1990:130 [ref. 19326], McCosker & Rosenblatt 2010:188 [ref. 30957], Lins Oliveira et al. 2015:38 [ref. 37485], Smith 2016:1599 [ref. 34556], Robertson et al. 2017:28 [ref. 35676], Love et al. 2021:31 [ref. 39279], Fermon et al. 2022:112 [ref. 39448], Grove et al. 2022:15 [ref. 41326], Page et al. 2023:50 [ref. 40505], Fricke et al. 2024:111 [ref. 41622]). Current status: Valid as Halosaurus attenuatus Garman 1899. Halosauridae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Gulf of California (Mexico), Gulf of Panama, Galapagos Islands (Ecuador); western Atlantic: Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil); eastern Atlantic: Gulf of Guinea south to Gabon. IUCN (2015): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
