Holotype: SIO 52-409. Paratypes: SIO 52-419 (1), 54-89 (1), 55-221 (1), 55-244 (1); YPM 8040 (4), 8041 (2); ZMUC P417-11, P41221-235. Type catalog: Nielsen 1974:60 [ref. 9588], Moore & Boardman 1991:16 [ref. 16741]. •Valid as Melamphaes spinifer Ebeling 1962 -- (Pequeño 1989:52 [ref. 14125], Kotlyar 1996:274 [ref. 23292], Kotlyar 2004:4 [ref. 27590], Love et al. 2005:68 [ref. 37547], Kotlyar 2014:635 [ref. 33889], Kotlyar 2016:22 [ref. 34170], Fourriére et al. 2016:457 [ref. 34668], Kotlyar 2016:387 [ref. 35038], Love et al. 2021:98 [ref. 39279]). Current status: Valid as Melamphaes spinifer Ebeling 1962. Melamphaidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Pacific coast of southern Baja California Sur (Mexico) south to Chile (34°S), west to about 130°W. Habitat: marine.
