orbignianus, Conger Valenciennes [A.] 1837:Pl. 12 (fig. 1) [Voyage dans l'Amérique méridionale; ref. 20720] Atlantic off South America. Holotype or Valenciennes specimens: MNHN 0000-8415 (2) Montivedeo. Type catalog: Bauchot et al. 1993:114 [ref. 20810]. Name available from plate as above; description in Valenciennes 1847:10 [ref. 5010] as Conger orbignyanus. Holotype (unique) should be the figured specimen. Pl 12 was published in 1837. •Valid as Conger orbignianus Valenciennes 1837 -- (Inada in Nakamura et al. 1986:64 [ref. 14235] as orbignyanus, Smith 1989:515 [ref. 13285], Smith 1990:160 [ref. 13454], Cousseau & Perrotta 2000:56 [ref. 25942] as orbignyanus, López et al. 2002:62 [ref. 26808] as orbingyanus, Menezes et al. in Menezes et al. 2003:37 [ref. 27192] as orbignyanus, Mincarone & Smith 2005:59 [ref. 28406], Figueroa & Ehrlich 2006:234 [ref. 29812] dated 1847 and as orbignyanus, Bovcon et al. 2010:[5] 836 [ref. 41480] as orbignyanus, Mabragaña et al. 2011:table S2 [ref. 31800], Nión et al. 2016:25 [ref. 35565] as orbignyanus, Fermon et al. 2022:119 [ref. 39448] with question, Carvalho-Filho 2023:55 [ref. 40480]). Current status: Valid as Conger orbignianus Valenciennes 1837. Congridae: Congrinae. Distribution: Southwestern Atlantic: Espiritu Santo (Brazil) south to southern Argentina. Habitat: marine.
