Holotype: YCM P25101. Paratypes: ASIZT 055978 (1), 055988-1 (1), 055988-2 (1). Type catalog: Ho & Shao 2011:43 [ref. 31432], Shibata et al. 2011:14 [ref. 31469]. •Valid as Apogon cheni Hayashi 1990 -- (Allen 1999:2605 [ref. 24812], Nakabo 2000:769 [ref. 25086], Allen in Randall & Lim 2000:613 [ref. 25122], Nakabo 2002:769 [ref. 26001], Myers & Donaldson 2003:623 [ref. 27495], Ho & Shao 2011:43 [ref. 31432], Shibata et al. 2011:14 [ref. 31469]). •Valid as Ostorhinchus cheni (Hayashi 1990) -- (Mabuchi et al. 2014:199 [ref. 33426], Mabuchi et al. 2015:44 [ref. 34429], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:113 [ref. 36965], Allen & Erdmann 2024:414 [ref. 40796]). Current status: Valid as Ostorhinchus cheni (Hayashi 1990). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Sri Lanka east to Mariana Islands, north to southern Japan. Habitat: marine.
